Riding the Spearmint Rhino
by Isabel Besthof
You can feel the vibrations Bouncing on and off the bodies of God’s perfect creations When you ride the spearmint rhino
You can watch the animals stalk their prey
But only at night, never by the light of day
When you ride the spearmint rhino
You can touch the wild deep within
Inhale their flesh or feel their skin
When you ride the spearmint rhino
You can listen to the jungle sing
Hear the sounds the hunters bring
When you ride the spearmint rhino
Not me.
When I rode the spearmint rhino
I focused my sight on the prize, the prey that moved gracefully
Only to find eyes fixated directly on me
Coming from my right hand side
Amazed at my existence
Watching me like the jungle’s morning sunrise
When I rode the spearmint rhino
I was also someone else’s ride
I had someone hypnotized by my eyes
I was the camouflage they used as a disguise
Now can you visualize
What it might be like
To ride the spearmint rhino?
